Crit 3

What I learned from this experimentation was how to construct a frame from wood and make a stretch canvas. I made two stretched canvases and also constructed the frame. I then attached my fiber experiments onto the stretch canvas by sewing them on individually. I plan on making many more fiber experiments and hope to fill up a whole wall with them. I wanted the canvas to be a structure  for the fiber experiments giving them elevation. When I add many many more they will have some higher points and lower points to help the eye wander.

  1. I'm really happy that you stuck to wood I know you were really stressed about it and wanted to change materials because you didn't know what to do with wood. But that's the point of the assignment to explore new methods and materials! I think you did a great job for your first time working with wood. Its great that you were able to make something to enhance your other piece, do you think you're going to make more canvases when you make more circle looms? Maybe try making a different shapes with the wood perhaps a triangle then add your circles, that would be very interesting and can represent women which I think you have been going for in the past.

  2. Totally agree with Kara, wood frames came out great for support and you could make more, even bigger, to play around the wall for different display options.

  3. Hi Holli ... I feel the canvas took a little bit of the power of your soft sculpture because it seem to be too crowded. My suggestion will be to do more soft sculpture to put it around the canvas and even do more canvas to combined both techniques and cover a whole wall!

  4. Hey! So good that you devoted your time to learning how to stretch a canvas, super necessary skill and so good to never have to pay for it again. I would keep playing with different ways to compose the work as a whole and and mabey different surfaces to show the work on like to consider what's different between placing the pieces directly on the wall or on different canvases like paintings, or mabey hung or scattered on the floor.
